The woman behind the workAbout MacKenzie Maness: Owner of Utah Brand Design
From National Parks & Luxury Spas to Building Multimillion-dollar Brands.
Brand Designer + ConsultantHi, I'm MacKenzie, and I’d love to help you.
I'm a brand designer and consultant from Southern Utah, currently located in Northern Utah. I've spent ten years helping businesses, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs build brands they're actually proud of.
The JourneyWhy I do this work — and how.
The short version: I care about getting it right. Here’s the long version:
I grew up surrounded by wild, wide-open landscapes — red rock, dark skies, the kind of peace that makes you slow down and actually look at things. Learning to observe, like really observe, became the foundation of everything I do as a designer.
I studied at Southern Utah University and spent three semesters living and working in National Parks — hiking, journaling, and becoming a steward of public lands. These seasons shaped something in me that I've never been able to shake: the belief that the best work comes from genuinely understanding what you're seeing and feeling. It’s real character and purpose.
That's exactly how I approach a brand.
"Before I design anything, I want to understand your business — where it came from, who it's for, and where it's going. The visual work comes last."
I've spent ten years working inside Utah's entrepreneurial community — as a brand designer, a marketing director, and a licensed master esthetician who built her own clientele from scratch in the luxury spa world. That background isn't incidental. It means I understand service businesses, personal brands, and a level of client experience most designers don't.
I started Utah Brand Design because I kept seeing the same pattern: passionate, capable business owners handing their brand to agencies that moved fast and didn't listen — and getting back something that looked polished but felt like someone else's company entirely.
That's not how I work. When you work with me, you get me — from the first conversation through final delivery. We don't call it done until it actually feels right.
How I workQualities that shape
every project I take on.
Patient
Good branding takes the time it takes. I'd rather get it right than get it done fast.
Intentional
Nothing I do is arbitrary. The colors, the type, the layout — every decision has a reason, and I can explain it.
Genuine
I'll tell you what I think, clearly and kindly. If something isn't working, we talk about it. Flattery doesn't serve you.
Collaborative
Your voice matters throughout — not just at the brief. This is built with you, not handed to you at the end.
Grounded
Strategy before aesthetics. I want to understand your business before I pick up a pencil — or open a design file.
Personal
When you email me, I respond. When we have a call, it's me on the line. Every time.
Rooted in UtahThe place shapes
the perspective.
I'm based in Logan, Utah, and the landscape has always been part of how I see the world. There's something about the West — its scale, its honesty, its refusal to be anything other than what it is — that I try to bring into everything I make.
Utah is also full of entrepreneurs, creatives, and community builders doing genuinely meaningful work. Being close to that — in person, not just online — matters to me. I work with clients everywhere, but there's something about sitting across the table from someone that changes the quality of the conversation.
If you're local to Northern Utah, I'd love to meet in person. If you're not, we'll make it work just as well over a video call.
